Software and electronics development for X-ray systems

RöntgenTek builds software and control electronics for X-ray inspection: from multi-energy (dual energy) image processing to conveyor X-ray scanner controllers and the integration of industrial line-scan detectors. We cover the full cycle — algorithms, firmware, SDKs and real-time visualization — and take the project all the way to a finished, documented solution.

Colorization · Before / After

From raw X-ray to colour-coded material discrimination

Drag the divider: raw X-ray on the left, dual-energy colorized on the right — organic (orange), inorganic/mixed (green) and metal (blue). Leave it alone and the scan line drifts slowly on its own.

How colorization works

What we do

Separately or as a single turnkey solution

You can order the areas below individually or combine them into one integrated project — from the detector to the operator interface.

🖥️

X-ray image processing software (dual energy)

Image acquisition, calibration, filtering and colorization with material discrimination by density and effective atomic number. Real-time visualization on OpenGL.

About image processing
♻️

X-ray material sorting (XRT)

Automatic sorting by material type: waste and recyclables, ore and minerals, scrap. Real-time classification (dual energy) and ejection management.

About sorting (XRT)
⚙️

Controllers and control electronics

Controller development for X-ray systems — managing X-ray generators, the conveyor, interlocks and safety. Hardware, embedded software and a cross-platform SDK for integration.

About controllers
🔌

X-ray detector integration

Connecting line-scan detectors to your software and hardware. Extensive hands-on experience with Detection Technology detectors (X-Card / X-Scan, X-LIB SDK); data acquisition over the network, synchronization and calibration.

About integration
🧠

Automatic detection & object recognition (AI)

Automatic detection in X-ray images with AI: weapon and prohibited-item detection in scanners, foreign-body inspection in food, and NDT defect detection. A machine-learning layer on top of the dual-energy image-processing pipeline.

Why RöntgenTek

Deep expertise in a narrow, knowledge-intensive field

  • Focused expertise. We specialize specifically in X-ray systems for security screening and industrial use, not in "software in general".
  • Full stack. Image processing algorithms, microcontroller firmware, detector drivers, operator GUI — all in one team.
  • Real integration experience. Detection Technology detectors, X-ray generators, encoders, barrier sensors, conveyor mechanics.
  • Handover of rights and source code. By default we hand over source code and documentation — you are not locked to the contractor.
  • Production readiness. We take the solution all the way to series operation, not just to a "desktop" prototype.
Where it is used

Application areas for our solutions

  • Conveyor X-ray scanners for screening hand luggage, baggage and cargo.
  • X-ray inspection systems in transport and at high-security facilities.
  • X-ray sorting (XRT) — sorting waste, ore and minerals, scrap and recyclables by material type.
  • Industrial X-ray inspection (defect detection, fill-level control).
  • Food safety — foreign-body (metal, glass, stone, bone) and fill inspection in food.
  • Security screeningweapon and prohibited-item detection (AI-assisted).
  • Retrofit of existing X-ray equipment (new software, new controller, replacement of the detector section).
How we work

From task analysis to a production solution

  1. Task analysis. We study the equipment, detectors, the generator, and the performance and safety requirements.
  2. Technical specification. We formalize the requirements and fix the interfaces and acceptance criteria.
  3. Development. Iteratively — with interim demonstrations and mock implementations to let teams work in parallel.
  4. Integration and testing. Assembly on real equipment, calibration, load and acceptance testing.
  5. Handover and support. Documentation, source code, training, maintenance.
